When selecting our materials, at Manitober we make sure to use fabrics with high quality and low environmental impact. We use mostly natural or recycled fibres that are robust and durable to ensure the best possible use of the applied resources. Nevertheless, we are also open to new materials, innovative (raw) materials and fibres and their use in our products, as long as the sustainable benefit for the environment and the consumer is assured. For example, recycled synthetic fibres to prevent new production - and thus the consumption of finite resources and harmful environmental impacts.

Boiled Wool (GOTS)

- Animal friendly husbandry
- No mulesing
- Easy to clean and repair
- Water repellent, wind proof, very warm

Our boiled wool consists of 100% wool, which was produced under animal-friendly conditions according to the GOTS standard. The yarn is made by Suedwolle and is processed in Portugal. The material is washed and mechanically compressed, creating the homogeneous structure. With approx. 550gr/qm our material is almost twice as thick as from other well-known kids brands. Nevertheless, it is elastic and cuddly, repels water or rain and ensures a nice body climate.

    How to care
We recommend letting the garment dry if it is dirty, shaking out the dirt, brushing it out and then airing it on a hanger. It is best to wash them in wool settings with a suitable detergent and never hang them on the radiator! Protect it from moths in the closet with a bag of lavender.

    Organic Cotton

    - No chemical fertilizers, genetically modified crops, defoliants or synthetic pesticides
    - Less water consumption than conventional cotton cultivation
    - Very low allergy potential, gentle on the skin
    - No fibre-blend and therefore easy to recycle

The use of chemical fertilizers, genetically modified plants, defoliants and synthetic pesticides is prohibited in our organic cotton. Organic cotton has a lower water usage than conventional cotton, also has a very low allergy potential and is therefore gentle on the skin. Cotton is a versatile fibre that we use for various fabrics. It can absorb moisture well and is easy to care for. As an unmixed fabric, it is also easy to recycle.

Our fabrics made from organic cotton

Single jersey: Our standard T-shirt material - robust and quite stable, yet comfortable to wear in summer. Cotton also protects against sun's radiation from the sun to a certain extent.

Single jersey untreated: The same material as our standard T-shirt material only knitted from untreated cotton yarns. The material has no coloring or other treatment and comes in the original cotton ecru color.

Italian Fleece brushed: Our standard material for sweatshirts and jogging pants is brushed on the inside, giving it a soft and cosy touch. With the weight we use, the material is not too thick, but still sufficiently warming and cosy.

Italian Fleece unbrushed: Slightly lighter than our standard material and not brushed on the inside, making this material especially suitable for warmer days. The structure feels cool on the skin but still protects well against sun and wind.

Knitted yarns made from organic cotton: Yarns from the company Trifitrofa from Portugal processed on flat knitting machines for some of our knitted items.

Terry cloth: Cosy fabric from our Swim & Play Collection that is not too thick, but sufficiently warming and comfortable. Due to the typical loop-shaped surface of terry cloth, the material is also very absorbent.

      How to care
Please follow the washing recommendations on the care labels! We generally recommend washing organic cotton garments inside out at 30° in the gentle/delicate cycle in the washing machine. Use detergent without optical brighteners and fabric softener and pull the garments into shape afterwards. It's best to dry on the drying rack, tumble dryers or heating should be avoided to protect the fibers!

      Recycled Wool

      - Post-consumer recycling
      - Recycled textile fibres have 97% less impact on the environment than new material: natural resources are conserved and land consumption and the use of chemical substances are reduced
      - Yarns from France

The material of this garment was made by our knitting supplier on flat knitting machines with yarns from Filatures du Parc (France). There, the yarns are recycled from old knitwear (post-consumer). For this reason it is composed of 70% wool, 25% polyamide and 5% other fibers. The fibers can be recycled in the same composition and have a 97% lower environmental impact than virgin material.

        How to care
We recommend brushing and airing the garment if it is dirty. If it looks a little worse or the cuffs are leiling, you should wash the item in wool settings at 30° with a suitable detergent. Pull into shape after washing and ideally dry it flat, but NEVER hang it on the radiator! Protect them from moths in the closet with a bag of lavender.

        RefibraTM Lyocell

        - Reduced water and space usage compared to cotton
        - Closed loop production
        - 100% recyclable
        - Skin-friendly, breathable and temperature-regulating

As Cotton is a fiber that uses a lot of water to produce, we were looking to reduce this impact for our T-Shirt fabric. We see great potential in regenerative fibres, which is why for the first time in the SS21 collection we have replaced a third of the organic cotton in some of our products with Refibra™ Lyocell from the Tencel™ brand. Lyocell is a viscose fibre whose pulp is obtained from sustainable forestry. It gives the T-shirt a robust but soft touch, reduces water consumption, but retains the perfect care characteristics of cotton. Since viscose - just like cotton - is made of cellulose, the fabric is completely unmixed which makes it 100% recyclable and easier to reuse.
The T-shirt fabric has a basis weight of 190 g/sqm.

        How to care
We recommend washing the garment inside out at 30° in the gentle/delicate cycle in the washing machine. Use detergent without optical brighteners and fabric softener and pull the garment into shape after washing. It's best to dry on the drying rack, tumble dryers or heating should be avoided to protect the fibers!

        Denim

        - Robust and abrasion resistant
        - Flexible wearing comfort
        - Supple and high freedom of movement

All color ways of our denim collection have different compositions. Red, black and white are made from 100% organic cotton. Light blue made from 82% conventional and 18% recycled cotton. The dark blue fabric is the most robust. In addition to conventional cotton, it also contains recycled cotton and recycled polyester, which make the fabric extremely abrasion-resistant. Nevertheless, our denim products are flexible in terms of wearing comfort, supple and offer freedom of movement in all activities.

        How to care
We recommend washing the garment inside out at 30° in the washing machine on a gentle/delicate cycle with a low spin speed. Use detergents without optical brighteners and fabric softeners and pull the garment into shape after washing. It is advisable not to wash jeans products too often, but rather to shake them out and air them more often. Depending on the color, the denim dye may bleed onto lighter surfaces, so do not mix with light colors. It is best to dry it on the drying rack. Tumble drying or heating should be avoided to protect the fibers!

        ECONYL® from recycled materials

        - ECONYL® yarns made from recycled materials
        - Fabric with 80% lower greenhouse effect
        - Softtouch for maximum comfort

The material of our swimwear is 78% ECONYL® regenerated polyamide and 22% elastane. ECONYL® yarn consists of recycled materials, such as fishing net, fabric remnants, carpets and industrial plastic. The proportions vary. The greenhouse effect caused by the fabric is therefore 80% less than that of newly produced material.

The elastane content makes the garment stretchy, hugs the body comfortably and provides maximum freedom of movement.

        How to care
We recommend washing the garment in the washing machine at 30° on the delicate cycle at a low spin speed. Ideally use mild detergent without optical brightener and fabric softener and dry it best on the clothes horse. Tumble drying or heating should be avoided to preserve the material!

        Left Over Fabrics

        - Rescued fabrics save ressources and avoid disposal
        - Limited stock

Sometimes we roam our suppliers' warehouse and look for rolls of fabric that are left over. This happens from time to time and mostly these materials are just waiting to be disposed. To prevent this waste of resources, we save these fabrics and make new things out of them. For this reason, the material may not have ecological certification AND is only available to a limited extent.

          How to care
Please follow the washing recommendations on the care labels!
